A Microsoft file hosting and synchronization service.
A stale OneDrive sync state can keep showing a folder-related alert even after the folder was moved out of OneDrive. The supported steps in this situation are:
- Verify the folder is no longer inside the local OneDrive folder in File Explorer.
- If the folder is outside the OneDrive folder structure, it is no longer part of OneDrive sync.
- Pause and resume OneDrive sync.
- Select the white or blue OneDrive cloud icon in the notification area.
- Select More > Pause syncing... and choose 2, 8, or 24 hours.
- Select More again > Resume syncing.
- This can help clear stuck processing states.
- Check the total file count in OneDrive on the PC.
- Open File Explorer.
- Right-click the OneDrive folder and select Properties.
- If Contains is more than 300,000 files, reduce the number of files in OneDrive. Removing shortcut folders or stopping sync for SharePoint libraries can also help.
- If the alert is tied to a folder that was deselected from sync and now says it already exists, use one of the supported workarounds:
- Delete it from the PC. This is safe if the content is still available in OneDrive online.
- Or move the folder outside the PC’s OneDrive folder to remove it from OneDrive and keep it only on the PC.
- If duplicate or stale sync metadata is involved, clear the local OneDrive pre-sign-in settings file:
- Press Windows key + R.
- Enter %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\settings and select OK.
- Delete PreSignInSettingsConfig.json.
- Then restart OneDrive.
- If that does not resolve it, uninstall and reinstall OneDrive.
About the file-count concern: OneDrive guidance states that if there are more than 300,000 files, sync can take a long time and reducing the number of files is recommended. That is separate from storage quota.
