Using Microsoft Teams on macOS, including installation, features, and compatibility
The supported changes in the available guidance are on the Mac side, not a Teams admin policy change.
- Verify screen recording permission on affected Macs
- In macOS, go to Apple Menu > System Settings > Privacy & Security.
- Open Screen & System Audio Recording.
- Make sure Microsoft Teams is turned on.
- Return to Teams and retry sharing.
- If Teams on the web is used, screen recording permission must also be granted to the browser.
- Update macOS on affected devices
- There is documented guidance to update to the latest macOS version and retry screen sharing if sharing issues occur on Mac.
- If devices are managed, have IT push the latest macOS update available for those Macs.
- Reduce local resource pressure during meetings
- Close unused applications before meetings and retry screen sharing.
- This is specifically called out for Mac screen-sharing issues.
- For video or motion-heavy sharing, use Teams’ high-motion sharing mode
- Start sharing the screen in Teams.
- Press Ctrl+Alt+Shift+T.
- This enables high-motion screen sharing in supported Teams versions.
- Expected behavior: frame rate can improve, but resolution may drop depending on bandwidth and device capability.
- To verify, in the meeting select More > Settings > Call health and check the Screen Sharing section.
- Note: the shortcut is being deprecated in favor of the presenter control toolbar option to optimize for video.
- Check for a Mac docking/display issue
- There is a known issue affecting sharing indicators and control panels on macOS 14 and higher when using DisplayLink or other docking stations.
- If affected users commonly use docks, test the same meeting workflow with the dock disconnected.
- If the issue is specifically presenter cursor lag during app sharing in VDI, stop and restart sharing
- For Teams VDI on Mac, presenter mouse/cursor lag during app sharing is a known issue.
- Stopping and reinitiating app sharing is the documented workaround.
- This is fixed in Teams 26149.x.x.x or higher for the listed VDI scenarios.
- Collect Mac-side Teams VDI logs if this is a VDI deployment
- On Mac endpoints, logs are stored in:
~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/TeamsVDI - Use these logs to compare affected and unaffected devices.
- On Mac endpoints, logs are stored in:
What is supported from the available guidance:
- No Teams Admin Center setting is documented here to stop this issue.
- The documented actions are macOS permissions, macOS updating, reducing local app load, using high-motion sharing for video content, checking dock/DisplayLink involvement, and VDI-specific workarounds if applicable.
