Confirming business identity to meet advertising transparency and compliance standards
Open Bing Places in an InPrivate window, explicitly select the work or school account, and if the redirect repeats, submit a Bing Places support case because Microsoft 365 access and MFA are already working.
1. Eliminate a stale or conflicting sign-in session
Microsoft documents this same pattern—authentication redirects but reloads the sign-in page—as a cookie/session problem, especially where personal and work accounts coexist.^1^
- Close every Bing Places and Microsoft sign-in tab.
- Open an InPrivate/Incognito window with extensions disabled.
- Go to the official Bing Places portal from Microsoft’s Bing contact page.^2^
- Select Sign in.
- If an account-type prompt appears, select Work or school account, not Personal account.
- Complete MFA and check whether the Bing Places dashboard opens.
A Microsoft 365 work account and a personal Microsoft account are separate identities, even when they use similar—or sometimes identical—email addresses; their account information is not synchronized.^3^
If InPrivate works, clear cookies/site data for Bing and Microsoft sign-in domains in the normal browser. For managed Edge configurations, also ask IT to check whether Microsoft sign-in domains have inconsistent Trusted sites/security-zone assignments; Microsoft states that inconsistent zones can prevent cookies from being shared and cause a redirect loop.^1^
2. Escalate a Bing Places-only failure
If the clean-session attempt still returns to the sign-in page, treat this as a Bing Places account or listing-association case—not an MFA reset case. Submit the request through:
Bing Places Support: https://www.bingplaces.com/DashBoard/Support
Bing Places support is the appropriate path when dashboard self-service cannot be used or listing details require internal review.^4^
Submit the case from the email address believed to be associated with the listing and include:
- Business name and public address
- Affected work email address
- Listing URL or Bing Maps URL, if available
- Date/time and time zone of the latest failed attempt
- Browser and operating system
- Screenshot or screen recording of the redirect
- Confirmation that Microsoft 365 sign-in and MFA succeed
- Confirmation that the failure occurs only after returning to Bing Places
- Whether the listing was originally claimed with a work account, personal Microsoft account, or another employee’s account
- Request to verify the identity type and account currently associated with the listing
Do not post tenant IDs, authentication codes, passwords, or unredacted sign-in records publicly.
3. Separate listing ownership from authentication
Successful Microsoft 365 authentication proves access to the work account, but it does not establish that this identity owns the Bing Places listing. Bing Places is the service used to claim or update a business listing, and availability can vary by region.^5^
If support confirms that the listing belongs to another identity, ask them for the supported ownership-recovery or transfer process. Avoid creating a duplicate listing while that review is pending.
An Entra administrator should investigate only if tenant sign-in logs show that organizational policy is blocking the Bing Places application. There is no reason to reset MFA based on the described symptoms: MFA completes successfully, and the same account works in Microsoft 365.
