Issue Type: Sign-in / Authentication Problem

Product: Bing Places for Business

Business Name: Sky*******************

Email Address: n*****@sk****************nce.com

Description of Issue:

I am unable to sign in to Bing Places for Business using my Microsoft 365 work account (n*****@sk****************nce.com).

When I attempt to sign in:

  1. I enter my email address and password.
  2. I successfully complete multi-factor authentication and enter the verification code.
  3. Authentication appears to complete successfully.
  4. Instead of being signed in, I am redirected back to the Bing Places sign-in page.

No clear error message is displayed.

Troubleshooting Already Completed:

  • Verified that my Microsoft 365 account is active and functioning normally.
  • Successfully signed in to Microsoft 365 using the same credentials.
  • Confirmed that multi-factor authentication is working correctly.
  • Retried the sign-in process multiple times.

Expected Result: I should be signed in to Bing Places for Business after completing authentication.

Actual Result: After successful authentication, the site redirects back to the login page and does not allow access to Bing Places for Business.

Account Email: n*****@sk****************nce.com

Business Name: Sky**************

Additional Information: Because the account successfully signs in to Microsoft 365 and completes MFA, this appears to be a Bing Places authentication or account association issue rather than a credential problem.

Thank you for your assistance. I would appreciate any guidance on resolving the sign-in loop or verifying whether there is an issue with my Bing Places account or listing ownership.

    Hello Natalie,

Thank you for using our Microsoft Advertising Learn Q&A Platform!

I understand that you were trying to update your business listing on Bing, but encountered difficulties signing in to your account. I hope the response and resources provided here can be of help to you. I've reached out to you privately to gather additional details and assist with troubleshooting. Please reply to my private message at your earliest convenience so we can investigate this further and help resolve the issue.

Creating your Bing Places account is simple: all you have to do is sign in. You can also use accounts from any of the following platforms to sign in.

    • Facebook
    • Google
    • Microsoft Account (MSA)
    • Work account

Any listings you claim or create will be associated with the email credentials you've used to sign in. You can create a free Microsoft account on our sign up page and use that to sign in. Learn about the benefits that come with a Microsoft account. You can learn more here.

Bing uses many internal and external data sources to populate the information that appears in a Local Listing. Bing Places is one of the primary sources for this information; using Bing Places you can control and update your listing, within the established policies available at Data quality guidelines. Although Bing Places for Business is one of our preferred data feeds, other sources make take priority if their information is fresher, (e.g. Bing Places for Business data hasn't been updated for more than 6 months) or if there are multiple conflicts with the data we're getting from Bing Places. Many of the sources Bing pulls from are publicly visible at the bottom of the listing, in the 'Data from' section; other sources are internal and specific to Microsoft so they won't be disclosed publicly because it evolves over time. In some cases the data in Bing Places for Business might not be reflected in the published Local Listing because of policy concerns, or due to the formatting logic used by Bing when acquiring, standardizing and conflating data from multiple sources.

Bing's algorithm keeps learning to improve the final listing quality, which may mean that at times details of the final listing might differ from what is expected. Each change in Bing Places for Business goes through a Publish Cycle, in order for the data to be validated and matched against the data we're receiving from other sources. If, after several days, a certain attribute has not updated on the local listing, and the change in Bing Places complies with our policies, please do flag that with us so that it can be reviewed, validated, and updated. Please note that information that helps users who are searching on Bing is favored in order to provide a standardized experience across our services. Some updates added on the Bing Places for Business dashboard might be discarded if it could negatively affect the user experience (for instance, we don't accept SEO techniques, like keyword insertion, applied to a business name). You can learn more here.

Our Bing Places support teams are happy to discuss your query in more detail. Please see our bingplaces.com/supportpage for details.

I have also sent you a private message asking for further details. You are more than welcome to respond to me so that I can begin the investigation on my end.

    Kind regards,

Open Bing Places in an InPrivate window, explicitly select the work or school account, and if the redirect repeats, submit a Bing Places support case because Microsoft 365 access and MFA are already working.

    1. Eliminate a stale or conflicting sign-in session

Microsoft documents this same pattern—authentication redirects but reloads the sign-in page—as a cookie/session problem, especially where personal and work accounts coexist.^1^

    1. Close every Bing Places and Microsoft sign-in tab.
    2. Open an InPrivate/Incognito window with extensions disabled.
    3. Go to the official Bing Places portal from Microsoft’s Bing contact page.^2^
    4. Select Sign in.
    5. If an account-type prompt appears, select Work or school account, not Personal account.
    6. Complete MFA and check whether the Bing Places dashboard opens.

A Microsoft 365 work account and a personal Microsoft account are separate identities, even when they use similar—or sometimes identical—email addresses; their account information is not synchronized.^3^

If InPrivate works, clear cookies/site data for Bing and Microsoft sign-in domains in the normal browser. For managed Edge configurations, also ask IT to check whether Microsoft sign-in domains have inconsistent Trusted sites/security-zone assignments; Microsoft states that inconsistent zones can prevent cookies from being shared and cause a redirect loop.^1^

    2. Escalate a Bing Places-only failure

If the clean-session attempt still returns to the sign-in page, treat this as a Bing Places account or listing-association case—not an MFA reset case. Submit the request through:

    Bing Places Support: https://www.bingplaces.com/DashBoard/Support

Bing Places support is the appropriate path when dashboard self-service cannot be used or listing details require internal review.^4^

Submit the case from the email address believed to be associated with the listing and include:

    • Business name and public address
    • Affected work email address
    • Listing URL or Bing Maps URL, if available
    • Date/time and time zone of the latest failed attempt
    • Browser and operating system
    • Screenshot or screen recording of the redirect
    • Confirmation that Microsoft 365 sign-in and MFA succeed
    • Confirmation that the failure occurs only after returning to Bing Places
    • Whether the listing was originally claimed with a work account, personal Microsoft account, or another employee’s account
    • Request to verify the identity type and account currently associated with the listing

Do not post tenant IDs, authentication codes, passwords, or unredacted sign-in records publicly.

    3. Separate listing ownership from authentication

Successful Microsoft 365 authentication proves access to the work account, but it does not establish that this identity owns the Bing Places listing. Bing Places is the service used to claim or update a business listing, and availability can vary by region.^5^

If support confirms that the listing belongs to another identity, ask them for the supported ownership-recovery or transfer process. Avoid creating a duplicate listing while that review is pending.

An Entra administrator should investigate only if tenant sign-in logs show that organizational policy is blocking the Bing Places application. There is no reason to reset MFA based on the described symptoms: MFA completes successfully, and the same account works in Microsoft 365.
