Unknown organisation appears in my personal Teams account

If the organization appears in Microsoft Teams for personal use, try removing it from Teams personal settings first:

1. Open Microsoft Teams for personal use.
2. Go to Settings.
3. Select Accounts and orgs.
4. Under Organizations, look for the unknown organization and select Leave.
5. Confirm Leave.

If the organization is still shown after that, wait a few hours, then sign out of Teams and sign back in.

If there is no Leave option, the account is likely associated as an external or guest account where self-service removal is blocked. In that case:

1. Open the My Account organizations page.
2. Under Other organizations you collaborate with, find the organization and select Leave.
3. Confirm Leave.

Important limits:

• There is no Leave option for a home organization. Only an administrator can remove that account from its home organization.
• For external organizations, Leave may also be unavailable if the organization does not allow users to leave on their own or if the account has been disabled. In those cases, the organization’s admin or privacy contact must remove the account.

If the unwanted account is also cached on the device, sign out of Teams and remove the account from Windows:

• Personal account: Start > Settings > Accounts > Email & accounts > select the account > Remove.
• Work or school account: Start > Settings > Accounts > Access work or school > select the account > Manage > Sign out everywhere.

If the issue is specifically that the old organization keeps reappearing and the personal account is being treated as part of that tenant, the accepted Microsoft Q&A guidance is that the former organization’s Global Administrator may need to remove the account association from their tenant.
