If your Logitech C920 webcam is connected to your Surface Laptop via USB and the blue lights are on, but no image appears on the screen, try the following steps one by one.
- Close other apps using the camera
Close Teams, Zoom, Skype, OBS, browser video calls, and any other apps that might be using the webcam. Then open the Camera app and test it again.
- Check camera permissions
Go to Settings → Privacy & security → Camera and make sure these options are enabled:
Camera access
Let apps access your camera
Let desktop apps access your camera
- Select the Logitech C920 manually
If you're using Teams, Zoom, or another video app, open its video settings and select Logitech C920 as the camera. Make sure the app isn't using the built-in Surface camera or a virtual camera instead.
- Test it with the Windows Camera app
Open the Camera app from the Start menu. If the C920 works there, the problem is probably with the settings of the other app. If the screen is still black, continue with the next steps.
- Try another USB port
Disconnect the webcam and plug it directly into a different USB port on your Surface Laptop. Avoid using a USB hub or extension cable while testing.
- Check the camera lens
Make sure nothing is covering the lens and that any protective film has been removed.
- Reinstall the webcam driver
Right-click Start and open Device Manager.
Expand Cameras.
Right-click Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920 and select Uninstall device.
Unplug the webcam, restart your Surface, and reconnect it.
Windows should detect the webcam and reinstall its driver automatically.
- Test with Logitech software
If the problem continues, try the webcam with Logitech's Logi Tune software, if supported by your setup. Also check for available Windows updates.
- Restart your Surface Laptop
With the webcam connected, restart the laptop and test it again
