New Outlook for Windows: Google contacts not syncing in either direction, but Gmail and calendar work

I’m using new Outlook for Windows with a personal Gmail account. Email and Google Calendar sync correctly, but contacts do not appear to sync in either direction.

What I’m seeing:

  • Outlook’s People view shows “You haven’t added any contacts yet”

A test contact created in Outlook has not appeared in Google Contacts.

Troubleshooting completed:

Waited several hours and restarted Outlook.

Confirmed the account is configured as Gmail.

Checked Google’s permissions for “Microsoft apps & services”, including permission to view, edit, download and delete contacts.

Removed the Gmail account from Outlook.

Revoked Microsoft’s access in Google, then added the account back to Outlook and granted fresh permissions.

Restarted Outlook again. Contacts still do not sync.

Outlook version: 1.2026.929.200 Client version: 20260925004.10

Is full two-way Google Contacts synchronization currently supported in new Outlook for Windows? If so, is this a known issue, and are there diagnostics or a way to reset contact synchronization without repeating the account removal process?

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

    Welcome Dr D,

Thank you for providing the detailed troubleshooting you have already completed.

Microsoft's current documentation indicates that Gmail accounts can synchronize email, calendar, and contacts with the Microsoft Cloud in New Outlook for Windows, so contacts are expected to be available for a connected Gmail account. Sync your account in Outlook to the Microsoft Cloud

Since you have already removed and re-added the Gmail account and refreshed the Google permissions, I would not repeat those steps.

Could you please check one detail for me?

    • Open New Outlook and select People
    • In the left pane, check whether your Gmail account or a contacts folder associated with that Gmail address appears at all.
    • If it appears, select it and let us know whether it remains empty.
    • If only the general Your contacts area appears and there is no Gmail contacts location, please let us know that as well.

    Looking forward to your update.
