Using New Outlook on Windows for personal email, calendar, and contact management
For New Outlook for Windows, Gmail and Yahoo accounts support contact features in the Microsoft cloud, including Add contacts and Contact suggestions. On iOS and Android, Gmail, Yahoo, and iCloud accounts support Add contacts, while IMAP only supports mail.
Because the same stale contact data appears in both New Outlook for Windows and Outlook for iOS, the issue is consistent with the Microsoft cloud copy of the account data not refreshing.
Try this end-to-end reset path:
- Protect unsynced changes first
Copy any recent contact edits that exist only in Outlook or only in Google Contacts to a safe place before continuing. - Remove the Google-to-Microsoft connection in Google
In a web browser, sign in to the Google account, open Security > Your connections to third-party apps and services, find Microsoft apps and services, and remove that connection. - Remove the Gmail account from New Outlook for Windows
Open Settings > Accounts > Your accounts, select Manage for the affected Gmail account, and remove it. - Add the Gmail account again
Restart Outlook, add the Gmail account again, and approve Google’s authorization prompt when asked. This recreates the authorization used to connect Gmail with Outlook. - Test contact sync in both directions
After reconnecting, create or edit a test contact in Google Contacts and check whether it appears in Outlook. Then create or edit a test contact in Outlook and check whether it appears in Google Contacts. - On Outlook for iOS, if contacts still do not refresh
Go to Settings, tap the affected account, choose Delete Account > Delete From This Device, then add the account again.
Important limitation from the documented capabilities: if the account is connected as IMAP, contacts will not sync because IMAP supports mail only. The account must be connected as a supported Google account, not as IMAP.
If the account is already connected correctly and reauthorization plus re-adding the account does not restore bidirectional contact updates, the available context indicates a known Outlook-side issue can affect contact visibility/sync behavior in New Outlook. In that case, the practical next step is to wait for service-side correction or use Google Contacts directly until the cloud copy refreshes.
