My Microsoft account used to sign in with [Moderator note: PII removed]@gmail.com. It now says the account does not exist. I still have my Xbox gamertag, Minecraft purchase receipt, Microsoft transaction IDs, and proof of ownership. I believe the sign-in alias was changed or removed.

Sorry to hear about your situation, Davey Sutherland.

Please note that our forum is a public platform, and we will modify your question to hide private, identifiable information in the description. Kindly ensure that you hide such details the next time you post to protect personal data.

I know how frustrating and worrying it is that your Microsoft account has been compromised. Given that you have many details that can prove your ownership, please use the Sign-in Helper. It can identify your account issues and, based on detected situations, offer verification forms where you can provide your evidence:

I wish I could help more directly, but Microsoft Q&A is a user-to-user support forum. Contributors here can give you guidance, but we cannot restore your account. Even if you contact Microsoft Support, they're prohibited from manually changing account information or generating reset-password link.

I know this isn't the answer you're looking for, but I don't want to give you unrealistic hopes that someone could unlock an account or override Microsoft's security decisions, because we don't have that capability.

If the original Gmail sign-in now returns “account doesn’t exist”, the sign-in alias was likely changed or removed.

    Recommended actions:

    1. Use the Sign-in Helper tool first. It is the primary path for Microsoft account sign-in issues and hacked accounts.
    2. If the account was compromised, run a full malware scan on the PC before changing any passwords on related accounts:
      • Open Virus and threat protection
      • Select Scan options > Full scan > Scan now
    3. Submit the Microsoft account recovery form and provide as much accurate information as possible, including previous passwords and account details.
    4. Gather the ownership evidence already available, such as:
      • Xbox gamertag
      • Minecraft purchase receipt
      • Microsoft transaction IDs
      • Previous sign-in details
    5. If access is restored, immediately:
      • Change the password
      • Review connected accounts, forwarding, and automatic replies
      • Check Recent activity for the last 30 days
      • Update security settings and remove trusted devices if needed

Important limits from Microsoft support guidance:

    • Microsoft Support agents are not allowed to send password reset links or directly change account details.
    • Account recovery is handled through the automated recovery process.
    • If the attacker changed the associated sign-in data and recovery is unsuccessful, accepted Microsoft Q&A guidance indicates the account may no longer be recoverable.
    • Creating a new Microsoft account with the same Gmail address does not restore purchases tied to the original account.

If Minecraft was purchased on the compromised account and the Microsoft account cannot be recovered, the purchase remains attached to the original account. In that case, keep the receipt and transaction details available for any product-specific support path.
