If Office shows "cannot verify the key for this product" and asks for a repair, do this first:

1. Open Control Panel.
2. Go to Programs > Uninstall a program.
3. Select the Microsoft Office product.
4. Choose Change or Modify.
5. Select Online Repair and then Repair.
   • Online Repair is the more complete repair option.
   • Quick Repair is faster, but it only detects and replaces corrupted files.
6. Follow the on-screen steps to finish the repair.

If the repair does not fix it, the problem can be with the product key or activation:

• If the product key does not work or stopped working, contact the seller and request a refund.
• A blocked or invalid key can happen when the key was sold separately from the software or was unauthorized.
• If help is still needed with the product key, use Microsoft support.

If the error appears while entering the key, also check that:

• the key was typed correctly
• the key is for Office, not a Windows key from a PC sticker
• the key was purchased for the same country or region where it is being redeemed
