For a Surface on Windows 10 showing 0xA00F429F <WindowShowFailed> (0x8007007F), use this order:
- Run the camera troubleshooter first.
- On Windows 10, start the automated camera troubleshooter in Get Help.

- Check camera privacy settings.
- Go to Start > Settings > Privacy & security > Camera.
- Make sure Camera access is On.
- Make sure Let apps access your camera is On.
- If the problem is only in certain apps, also make sure desktop apps are allowed to access the camera.

- Go to Start > Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates.
- If nothing appears, open Advanced options > Optional updates and install any camera driver updates.
- Restart the device after updates.
- Check the Surface app.
- Open the Surface app.
- Expand Help & support and check update status.
- If updates are available, select Check for updates.

- Select Roll Back Driver if available.
- Restart and test the Camera app.

- Right-click the taskbar > Task Manager.
- End any app that may be using the camera, then test again.
Important: Do not uninstall camera drivers on Surface Pro X. That can require a full system reset to restore them.
If the camera still fails after these steps, restore or reset the Surface, or use Surface support options such as the Surface app, service order, or in-person support.
