How do I access a locked hotmail account? I've tried several times with the questions, emails, previous passwords and nothing seems to work. I need help accessing this account since I use this email account for everything.

    Hello,

Just to be clear upfront since you are asking for account lockout assistance, this is a public community forum and everyone answering here is a fellow user, not a Microsoft employee. We have absolutely no access to the system or any customer accounts.

When it comes to account lockouts, Microsoft uses a fully automated recovery system. If you cannot get the standard recovery codes to work, that recovery form you have been filling out is genuinely the only possible way back into the account. Support agents are actually not allowed to manually reset passwords or bypass the automated system for security reasons.

Your best option right now is to keep trying that recovery form up to twice a day. Make sure you are doing it from a PC or phone that you used to check that email regularly and try to be on your usual home Wi-Fi network so the system recognizes the location. You can reach out to family or friends you have emailed in the past and ask them to read back exact email addresses and exact subject lines of messages you sent them so you can plug those into the form.

Keep trying as that form is literally your only way in.

No. I have done all of the above and it still won't verify my account. It doesn't tell me what is not correct so I have no way of knowing where the problem is.

If the Hotmail account is locked, the supported recovery path depends on what is happening at sign-in:

    1. Try signing in at https://account.microsoft.com.
      • If the account shows Let’s prove you’re human, complete that step to unlock it.
    2. If Let’s prove you’re human does not appear, the account may be locked for suspicious activity or a Terms of Use issue.
      • Use the aka.ms/ link shown in the sign-in window and follow the reinstatement instructions.
      • After submitting the form, wait for the Microsoft Online Safety support agent to contact by email.
      • Do not submit additional requests, because that can slow the response.
    3. If the account is temporarily blocked because of unusual sign-in activity, reset the password to unblock it.
      • For Outlook.com and Hotmail accounts, the documented way to unblock the account is to reset the password.
    4. If the recovery questions, previous passwords, and verification attempts are failing, use the Microsoft account sign-in helper/troubleshooter.
      • It checks the email address or phone number entered and tells what action is needed.
    5. If the username is not being recognized, try these checks before another recovery attempt:
      • Confirm the correct domain, such as .com or .co.uk.
      • Check for spelling differences in the email name.
      • If another alias or phone number is on the account, try that instead.
    6. If access still cannot be restored through password reset, verification code, or the sign-in helper, use the support path in the Microsoft account sign-in guidance or Outlook.com support page.

Important limits from Microsoft support guidance:

    • Support agents can only send password reset links or change account details after the account reinstatement form is submitted.
    • If the mailbox or OneDrive storage is full, email sending and receiving can stop, but that is separate from a locked-account issue.
