Sole Global Administrator locked out due to Microsoft Authenticator MFA loop – Tenant Recovery needed

Hello,

I am locked out of the Global Administrator account for my Microsoft 365 Business tenant because Microsoft Authenticator MFA cannot be completed.

The issue started after replacing my iPhone.

When I try to sign in with the Global Administrator account, Microsoft asks me to approve the request in Microsoft Authenticator or enter a verification code.

However, Microsoft Authenticator itself shows that the account must sign in again. Therefore, I cannot approve the sign-in request or generate the required verification code.

There is no alternative MFA method available, and there is no other Global Administrator who can reset the authentication methods.

I cannot access the Microsoft 365 Admin Center or Microsoft Entra Admin Center.

My normal Microsoft 365 user account can still use Office and Outlook through existing sessions, but it does not have administrator permissions.

This appears to be a tenant lockout involving the sole Global Administrator.

I need assistance opening a support request and escalating this case to the Microsoft Data Protection / Tenant Recovery team so that the MFA methods for the Global Administrator can be reset.

I can verify tenant ownership through subscription information, billing records, domain ownership, order information, and access to the registered contact email.

I can provide the Tenant ID, administrator account details, and other identifying information privately if required.

Thank you.

Hi @KAZUO FUJII

Please understand that this is a user-to-user support forum, so moderators and community members here are unable to directly escalate your case to the appropriate Microsoft Support team.

In this case, you will need to contact Microsoft Support directly, as the issue involves a tenant lockout where the sole Global Administrator is unable to complete MFA.

You mentioned that you have already contacted Microsoft Support by phone. Could you please confirm whether you were able to speak with a live support representative or only interacted with the automated system?

If you are unable to reach the appropriate support team by phone, you can consider directly submitting a support request as a helpful workaround:

-Create a temporary Microsoft 365 tenant using a trial license: Go to Microsoft 365 Business Plans and Pricing and click Try for free to set up a temporary Microsoft 365 tenant with a trial license.

-Use this new account to sign in to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center and submit a support request on behalf of your primary (locked) account.

-Select the Help & support (headset) icon >If Support Assistant is enabled, turn it off >Type contact support in the search box >Select Contact support, then choose Phone or Email to submit your request.

Note: This method doesn't require you to use your new account for your business. Instead, it allows you to create a temporary global administrator account so you can submit a support request, as your original global administrator account is locked out due to issues with multi-factor authentication. The trial account is free for one month. Be sure to delete it after submitting your support request to avoid any automatic renewals or charges from Microsoft.

For further instructions, you can refer to the following Microsoft guides:

I hope this information helps.
