We run our email through gmail and Outlook is currently not able to pull from it any longer, I have no reason why. Now I cannot even get into Outlook. How can I make it work like it did yesterday?

I got so frustrated after going down all the suggestions, I uninstalled Outlook and reinstalled from the app store. Now accessing it as if it was new, it recognizes my email account and attempts to speak with gmail and eventually fails.

    {"SessionId":"4f98561e-841b-5c4a-a1cd-8bc0a94eb833","Timestamp":1791316653551,"Error":"INVALIDCREDENTIALS TEMPORARILYUNAVAILABLE"}

I believe it is has been a few months since my last password change. As far as I know I have not changed an security settings.

Thanks for the details. The INVALIDCREDENTIALS TEMPORARILYUNAVAILABLE error appears to be occurring while Outlook is trying to authenticate with Google, rather than from the Outlook installation itself.

First, make sure you can sign directly into Gmail at https://mail.google.com and see your mail normally.

If Gmail works there, please try resetting Outlook's permission to your Google account:

    • Go to https://myaccount.google.com/connections while signed into the affected Google account.
    • Look for Microsoft or Microsoft apps & services under the apps that have access to your Google account.
    • Open it and remove its access.
    • Close Outlook completely and reopen it.
    • Add the Gmail account again.
    • When Google asks what Microsoft can access, make sure you approve the requested Gmail permissions and select "Allow."

Removing a third-party connection revokes its existing authorization, allowing it to be authorized again when you reconnect.

Microsoft's Gmail setup instructions also require completing the Google sign-in and selecting "Allow" when the permissions window appears:

If it still gives the same error afterward, is this a regular @gmail.com address or a company email address hosted through Google Workspace, and are any other users at your company having the same problem?

Click "Add comment" to let me know.

    Thanks!

For New Outlook for Windows with a Gmail account that suddenly stopped working, the most direct fix is to refresh the Google-to-Outlook authorization and then add the account again.

    1. Close New Outlook completely.
    2. In a web browser, sign in to the Google account.
    3. Open Security > Your connections to third-party apps and services.
    4. Find Microsoft apps and services and remove that connection.
    5. Reopen New Outlook.
    6. Go to Settings > Accounts > Your accounts.
    7. Select Manage next to the affected Gmail account, then remove the account from Outlook.
    8. Restart Outlook.
    9. Add the Gmail account again.
    10. When Google prompts for access, select Allow.

Also verify the Gmail account is configured to allow Outlook to sync:

    1. In Gmail on the web, open Settings.
    2. Open Forwarding and POP/IMAP.
    3. Make sure IMAP is enabled.
    4. Open Labels.
    5. Make sure Show in IMAP is selected for Inbox, Sent Mail, Trash, and All Mail.

After reconnecting, refresh sync. It can take up to 15 minutes for syncing to refresh.

If the problem is specifically that Outlook no longer opens and keeps forcing a failed Google sign-in, one reported resolution was to remove the Gmail address as a Microsoft account alias, switch the primary Microsoft alias to an Outlook.com address, then sign in to New Outlook with that Outlook.com address and add Gmail back afterward.
