A specific functionality or enhancement provided by Windows Copilot
Hi Susan Asher,
I can see why this message would be confusing, especially when the month has only just started and you were not expecting a separate limit for Tasks.
A Copilot “Task” is different from a regular chat question. It generally refers to a request made through the Tasks or Cowork experience, where Copilot carries out work on your behalf, such as completing a multi-step request, working with files, interacting with websites, or running something on a schedule. A Task is typically counted as one conversation thread, so asking follow-up questions within the same Task should not normally create a separate Task each time.
The message is offering an option to upgrade; it does not confirm that a paid subscription has already been activated. Free Copilot access is still available, but some features are subject to capacity and usage limits. Microsoft is also moving personal Copilot Tasks users to Cowork, and access to creating or running Tasks may now depend on the Microsoft 365 plan associated with the account.
Could you please confirm which subscription is shown under your Microsoft account, such as Microsoft 365 Personal, Family, Premium, Pro, or no subscription, and whether the warning appears under Chat, Tasks, or Cowork?
You can review Microsoft’s current information here:
- Using Copilot Tasks
- Copilot app updates and the Tasks-to-Cowork transition
- AI credits and limits for Microsoft 365 subscriptions
Please note that this is a user-to-user support forum. Moderators and contributors, including external Microsoft staff, cannot access your account’s backend usage records or manually reset its Task limit. However, confirming your subscription and where the warning appears in Copilot will help me better understand the issue and guide you on the appropriate next steps.. Thank you so much for your understanding.
