If Dynamic Lighting shows No Dynamic Lighting-compatible devices detected and the Brightness and Effects controls are greyed out, Windows is not detecting a compatible HID LampArray device.
For this laptop scenario, check these points:
- Open Settings > Personalization > Dynamic lighting.
- Compatible devices appear as cards at the top of the page.
- If no device card appears, Windows has not detected a Dynamic Lighting-compatible device.
- Confirm whether the lighting hardware is actually a supported Dynamic Lighting device.
- Dynamic Lighting works with compatible HID LampArray devices.
- Supported device categories include keyboards, mice, game controllers, peripherals, chassis devices, headsets, and others.
- If the device was previously detected, reconnecting can change how Windows sees it.
- Dynamic Lighting background settings are tied to the device and the port it is connected on.
- If a device is unplugged and connected to a different USB port, it can appear as a different device.
- If a compatible device does appear but the sliders still do not work, check app priority.
- In Settings > Personalization > Dynamic lighting > Background light control, move Dynamic Lighting Background Controller higher in the list than other RGB controller apps.
- A higher-priority background RGB controller can prevent the Brightness and Effects sliders from changing the device behavior.
- If the laptop’s internal lighting is not exposed to Windows as a Dynamic Lighting-compatible device, those controls remain unavailable in Windows.
- In that case, the lighting is using its default non-Dynamic Lighting behavior instead of Windows Dynamic Lighting control.
