In Windows 11, camera brightness can be adjusted from the camera settings page if the camera supports that control.
- Open Settings.
- Go to Bluetooth & devices > Cameras.
- Select the affected camera under Connected cameras.
- Look for Brightness and lower it until the image no longer looks washed out.
- If available, also check Contrast and Sharpness and return them closer to default values if the image still looks off.
Important details:
- These camera settings act as default values that Windows uses whenever an app starts the camera.
- If the Brightness slider is not shown, the camera does not expose a supported brightness control to Windows.
- Before Windows 11, these image controls were often available only through the camera manufacturer’s utility or a camera app UI.
If the problem appears only in one app, that app may also have its own camera brightness control. Windows Camera is designed to use the same brightness logic as the Windows camera settings page.
