Using Microsoft Teams on macOS, including installation, features, and compatibility
On a MacBook, Teams screen sharing usually fails because macOS screen recording permission is not enabled for Teams.
- In the Teams meeting window, select Share in the meeting controls.
- If prompted, select Allow.
- If needed, select Open System Settings.
- In macOS, go to Apple menu > System Settings > Privacy & Security.
- Open Screen & System Audio Recording.
- Make sure Microsoft Teams is turned on.
- Return to the meeting, select Allow on the prompt, then select Share again.
- Choose the window or screen to present.
If sharing still does not work:
- Update macOS to the latest available version.
- Close unused apps to free memory, then try sharing again.
- If using Teams on the web, also allow screen recording for the browser.
- If the Mac is managed by an organization, contact the IT admin if permissions cannot be changed.
If Teams is listed in Screen & System Audio Recording but sharing still fails on macOS 15.x, this workaround is documented in Microsoft Q&A:
- Open System Settings.
- Go to Privacy & Security > Screen & System Audio Recording.
- If Microsoft Teams appears in the app list, remove it with the - button.
- Select + and add Microsoft Teams again from the Applications folder.
- Select Quit & Reopen.
- Confirm Microsoft Teams is enabled, then relaunch Teams.
Note: On Mac, there is a known issue affecting sharing indicators and control panels when using DisplayLink or some docking stations on macOS 14 and later.
