can someone reach out to me concerning the cancellation of Microsoft Publisher. I have hundreds of files. Want to know if I order Publisher 2021 is it worth the high price that I may not be able to use with my Microsoft 365. If possible with my Microsoft 365 I can get an extended date before I will not be able open and transfer my files to PDF files

Publisher support ends in October 2026, but there is no extended access date for Microsoft 365 subscribers in the provided information. For Microsoft 365, Publisher will no longer be available after October 1, 2026, and Microsoft 365 subscribers will no longer be able to open or edit Publisher files in Publisher after that date.

If a perpetual, one-time-purchase version such as Publisher 2021 is used, it can still be installed and used beyond October 2026, although support ends on October 13, 2026. That means it may continue to function on the device, but it will no longer receive support.

For hundreds of existing .pub files, the recommended path is to convert them before October 1, 2026:

    1. To convert one file to PDF:
      1. Open the Publisher file.
      2. Go to File > Save as.
      3. Choose a save location.
      4. Select PDF as the file type and save.
    2. To keep content editable:
      1. Convert the Publisher file to PDF.
      2. Open Word.
      3. Go to File > Open.
      4. Open the PDF.
      5. Select OK in the dialog box.
      6. The file opens as a Word document.
Note: the Word version is optimized for text editing, so the layout can differ from the original, especially with graphics.
    3. For bulk conversion of many files:
      • A sample PowerShell script is provided to export Publisher files to PDF.
      • It requires a working and licensed version of Publisher installed.
      • Example usage includes converting a single file, all .pub files in a folder, or all .pub files recursively in subfolders.

    Example commands:

    • Convert-PubFileToPDF.ps1 -Filter "C:\Documents\MyFile.pub"
    • Convert-PubFileToPDF.ps1 -Filter "*.pub"
    • Convert-PubFileToPDF.ps1 -Filter "*.pub" -Recurse

If saving to PDF fails with "Publisher cannot save the file," a documented workaround for Publisher 2016 on Windows 10 is to switch the default printer to another device such as Microsoft Print to PDF, then switch back and try again.
