A Microsoft file hosting and synchronization service.
If Microsoft storage is full, Outlook.com cannot send or receive email, even when the mailbox itself is not full. A full OneDrive or overall Microsoft storage quota can block Hotmail/Outlook.com mail delivery.
What to do:
- Check storage usage and quota in the Microsoft storage area of the account dashboard: Open account dashboard
- Check OneDrive storage directly and review what is using space: Sign in Then open Manage your OneDrive storage to empty the Recycle bin and see what is taking up space.
- Verify the Microsoft 365 Personal subscription is active: Check Services & subscriptions in the Microsoft account: Microsoft account
- If the subscription was renewed or purchased recently, storage changes can take up to 24 hours to appear, and if the quota has still not updated after 48 hours, contact support.
- If storage is still reported as full after the subscription is active, contact Microsoft Support: Contact Microsoft Support
Important details:
- If Microsoft storage is exceeded, OneDrive files become read-only and new uploads, edits, and sync stop.
- Outlook.com cannot send or receive email while storage is full.
- Incoming emails sent during that time are returned to the sender and must be resent after storage is fixed.
- Microsoft 365 Personal includes a 100 GB Outlook.com mailbox, but mailbox storage is capped at 100 GB.
- Gmail is not covered by Microsoft 365 Personal storage.
