An Azure backup service that provides built-in management at scale.
Hello Priya,
To verify the storage account associated with Azure Site Recovery or Azure Backup, consider how each service handles storage:
- For Azure Site Recovery:
- ASR uses a Cache/Staging Storage Account during replication before changes are committed to managed disks in the target region.
- To identify this storage account:
- In the Azure portal, open your Recovery Services Vault.
- Under Protected items, click Replicated items and select the specific virtual machine.
- Under the VM replication blade, select Disks or Compute and Network.
- Look for the Cache storage account field. This displays the exact storage account used to stage replication logs.
- For Azure Backup (IaaS VMs):
- Standard Azure VM Backup does not require you to configure a customer-managed storage account; backup data and recovery points are written directly into storage managed internally by the Recovery Services Vault.
- However, if you are performing an operational tier backup (e.g., Azure Files or Blob Backup via Backup Vault), you can check:
- Open your Recovery Services Vault or Backup Vault.
- Under Protected items, select Backup items.
- Select your workload type (e.g., Azure Storage / Azure Files).
- The list will explicitly display the protected Storage Account name along with its container/file share associations.
You can also run this command in Azure CLI to view the ASR cache storage details:
az recovery-services-vault show --name --resource-group
