Scheduling and managing events using Outlook.com calendar
For a personal/family Outlook.com calendar, the most reliable fix is to remove the broken share and create it again from Outlook on the web.
- Sign in to the calendar owner’s Outlook on the web account.
- Go to Calendar.
- Right-click the shared calendar under Calendars and select Sharing and permissions.
- Remove the existing permission entry for the other family member.
- On the recipient side, remove that shared calendar from the calendar list as well.
- Share the calendar again from the owner account, and assign Can edit.
- Accept the new invitation in Outlook on the web. If the invitation in another Outlook app does not show Accept, use Outlook on the web to accept it.
Important checks:
- For Outlook on the web, Can edit is the permission that allows editing. Delegate also allows editing and can act on behalf of the owner for meeting requests.
- If the shared calendar invitation is not accepted properly, the calendar may appear but remain view-only.
- Some Outlook apps may not send or process the sharing invitation correctly. In that case, re-share from Outlook on the web and accept in Outlook on the web.
- If the shared calendar is not yet upgraded to the newer sharing platform, remove it, restart Outlook, then re-add it using Add Calendar > Open Shared Calendar.... Do not use Add from address list, because that adds it as a MAPI shared calendar.
- After re-adding, the calendar can appear empty at first while it syncs. Initial sync can take a few minutes, and large calendars can take a few hours.
If the calendar still opens as view-only after re-sharing, create a new blank calendar in Outlook on the web and share that new calendar with Can edit instead of continuing with the existing one.
