Hello Roger Marin,
It sounds like your Microsoft 365 subscription may still be active, but the Office apps on your Mac are not recognizing the license correctly.
First, sign in to your Microsoft account’s Services & subscriptions page and confirm that the subscription is active and associated with the account you are using in Office.
If it is shown as active, quit all Microsoft 365 apps and try running the official Mac License Removal Tool, then restart your Mac and attempt to activate Office again. This method can help when the Office apps on your Mac are still using outdated or incorrect licensing information and continue prompting you to activate or purchase a subscription again.
Note: The license removal tool only clears saved activation/licensing data on your Mac, it does not delete your purchase or invalidate your license. However, please make sure you still have access to the correct Microsoft account associated with your original Office purchase, as you will need to sign in again to reactivate it after running the tool.
After the process finishes, open an Office app and sign in with the same Microsoft account used to purchase the subscription.
Hope this could help. Feel free to post back if you need any further clarification or assistance!
