Additional settings-related features and issues within Microsoft Teams Free
Hi @Rachel Ask
Since diagnostics pass and others hear you fine, the sound is almost certainly being sent to the wrong output or muted somewhere Teams doesn't check. Go through these in order:
- In Teams, click Settings and more (three dots) > Settings > Devices. Under Speaker, pick your actual speakers or headset by name, not "Default". Teams quietly switches to a monitor, dock, or a Bluetooth device that isn't connected.
- Inside the meeting, click the arrow next to Mic > Audio settings. Under Speaker, make sure your device is selected and not muted. Teams has its own speaker mute that's easy to hit by accident.
- Windows: Start > Sound settings > under "Choose where to play sound", select your speaker and confirm the volume isn't muted.
- The one most people miss: open Settings > System > Sound > Volume mixer. Find Teams in the app list and check its volume isn't at zero and its output device isn't set to something else. Windows can route one app to a different device than the rest.
- If it's a Bluetooth headset, Windows shows two entries (Headset and Headphones). Try the other one in Teams' Speaker dropdown.
- Still nothing? Join the meeting from teams.microsoft.com in Edge or Chrome. If sound works there, sign out of the desktop app, quit it fully, and sign back in, or update it, since the problem is the app and not your hardware.
