After the update was released, if your version of Office is 2019, that will go into Read Only mode, because it is no longer possible to update the security certificates on that version of Office on a Mac, on this link, they provide full details on that update.

Microsoft enticed me into an unsolicited update. This was rather unethical. I should be allowed to revert back to my original MS OFFICE 19 without the update . I paid for it and am entitled to use it .
In case Dave's reply wasn't clear, Office 2019 for Mac has been retired. It isn't a matter of reverting to an earlier release. No version of that edition of the software is any longer supported. Please review the article to which he provided the link – in particular the section captioned If you have Office 2019 for Mac.
