    Hi Liz Nyagoha,

Thanks for sharing the details. To narrow this down, could you let me know whether you’re using the built-in Surface microphone or a headset and whether Google Meet is open in Chrome or Edge? Also, does the microphone work in other apps, such as Sound Recorder or another calling app?

If the microphone works elsewhere, please check whether the microphone level moves on the Google Meet preview screen. You can also select the arrow beside the microphone icon and confirm that Microphone Array (Surface) is selected. Then check the site controls beside the browser’s address bar and make sure microphone access is set to Allow.

If the microphone does not work in other apps either, try turning off Audio enhancements under Settings > System > Sound > Input, then open the Surface app > Help & support and install any available driver or firmware updates. These are recommended steps for built-in Surface microphone problems.

Please let me know what happens during the Google Meet preview test and whether the microphone works outside Meet.

    Try these checks in Windows:

    1. Make sure the microphone is not muted on the headset or device.
    2. Confirm the microphone or headset is connected correctly. If it is Bluetooth, make sure it is paired and connected.
    3. Set the correct microphone as the default input device:
      • Go to Start > Settings > System > Sound.
      • Under Input, select the microphone to use in Choose a device for speaking or recording.
      • Select the > next to that device, then run Start test under Microphone test. Speak, then select Stop test and Play to verify audio is being captured.
    4. Run the Windows audio troubleshooter:
      • Go to Settings > System > Sound.
      • Scroll to Advanced.
      • Choose Input devices under Troubleshoot common sound problems.
      • For more options, select All sound devices under Advanced.
    5. If the microphone works in Windows but not in the meeting app, check whether microphone permission is blocked for the app. On Windows, go to Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone and ensure desktop app microphone access is enabled.
    6. If using a Bluetooth headset, make sure the meeting app is using the headset microphone input, not a different device.

If the microphone test in Windows fails, the issue is at the device or Windows input level. If the test works, the issue is likely the app’s selected microphone or app permission.
