Will Publisher be sold separately after October 2026? Is there a way to use it beyond the cut-off date?

    Hi @Walvis Bay Diving,

Microsoft has announced that Microsoft Publisher will reach end of life in October 2026 and will no longer be included with Microsoft 365. After October 1, 2026, Microsoft 365 subscribers will not be able to install, download, open, or edit Publisher files using Publisher.

    Regarding your questions:

    1. Will Publisher be sold separately after October 2026?

The published guidance does not indicate that Microsoft will continue selling Publisher as a standalone product after its retirement. The documentation only confirms that Publisher will be removed from Microsoft 365 and that support for the perpetual version will end on October 13, 2026.

    2. Can Publisher be used after the cut-off date?

If you already own a perpetual (non-subscription) version of Publisher, Microsoft states that you will still be able to install and use the application after support ends, although it will no longer receive support or updates. You will also continue to be able to open and edit your Publisher files with that perpetual version.

If possible, I also recommend planning a transition to other Microsoft 365 applications. For most common publishing tasks, Word and PowerPoint provide suitable alternatives and are actively supported by Microsoft.

    • Use Word for newsletters, letterheads, envelopes, labels, business forms, and document-based layouts.
    • Use PowerPoint for flyers, brochures, posters, banners, certificates, and other visually designed materials.
    • Consider converting important .pub files to PDF for long-term preservation and archiving.
    • If ongoing editing is required, migrate frequently used Publisher content to Word or PowerPoint before the retirement date.

Taking these steps before October 2026 will help ensure continued access to your content and minimize disruption when Publisher reaches end of life. Based on Microsoft's guidance, Word and PowerPoint are the recommended replacements for most Publisher scenarios.

For more details, please refer to the Microsoft support article: Microsoft Publisher will no longer be supported after October 2026.

I hope this information helps. If you need any further assistance, please feel free to leave a comment.
