    Hi @Randall Price

If possible share the error screenshot will understand more about it.

In the mean time you just try below solutions

    1. Go to Build -> clean solution -> and rebuild.
    2. From solution explorer -> clean and re build.
    3. Suppose you incorporated any add-ons or DLL its not supported framework. so check the add-ons or DLL frame work requirement and convert your project to that framework.
    4. In this case create new project and test it's working or not. may be old project only having this issue. Thanks.

    Hi @Randall Price ,

To narrow this down, could you share a bit more detail?

    • Visual Studio version (Help > About, full build number)
    • Which template you picked (Windows Forms App vs Windows Forms App (.NET Framework)) and the target framework
    • The full text from the designer error page. You can expand the yellow bar so we can see the exact type/assembly and error code
    • Whether this happens on a brand new project only, or existing projects too

In the meantime, two quick things worth trying:

    1. Close Visual Studio, delete the project's bin and obj folders, reopen, build, then open the form.
    2. Open a Developer Command Prompt and run devenv /safemode, then open the form. If the designer loads fine there, an extension is likely the cause.

If the designer still fails on a fresh project, a Repair from the Visual Studio Installer usually clears it, since a new WinForms project has nothing in it to break the designer.

Hope to hear from you soon. If you found my response helpful or informative, I would greatly appreciate it if you could follow this guidance or provide feedback.

    Thank you.

For a new Windows Forms project, start with the standard designer recovery steps:

    1. In Solution Explorer, right-click the solution or project and select Clean.
    2. Right-click it again and select Rebuild.
    3. If the designer still fails, close Visual Studio and delete the project’s bin and obj folders.
    4. Reopen the solution, build it again, and then open the form in the designer.

If the designer error page appears, use the details shown there:

    • Expand the yellow error bars to see the exact file, line, column, error code, and description.
    • Use the navigation link in the error entry to jump directly to the problem.
    • Check the Task List or Error List for compile or parsing errors.

Common causes from the designer error guidance:

    • A missing assembly or type reference. If the error mentions a type or assembly could not be found, make sure the project builds successfully and that required references are present.
    • A bad .resx file. If resource-reading errors appear, show all files in Solution Explorer, open the .resx in the XML editor, and correct the invalid entries.
    • The file is read-only or already open in another incompatible editor.
    • The form class is not designable, such as not inheriting from a designer-supported base class, or the first class in the file is not the form class.

If this started after reinstalling or updating Visual Studio, repairing Visual Studio can also help. A similar case for WinForms designer issues after reinstall/update recommends trying Repair from the Visual Studio Installer after cleaning and rebuilding.
