In MS Power Apps I can only select the default environment. I'd like to change to a different environment, like the one I can select in MS Power Automate.

Hello

Environment visibility can depend on the user's permissions and the resources available within that environment. Microsoft documents that access to environment resources is governed by environment roles such as Environment Admin and Environment Maker.

Since you can see the environment in Power Automate but not in Power Apps, I would first verify whether your account has the appropriate role assigned in the target environment, such as Environment Maker or a higher role.

To better understand why the environment is not appearing in Power Apps, could you please confirm:

  • What is the name of the environment?
  • Is the environment visible in the Power Platform Admin Center?
  • Has an administrator confirmed that your account has been assigned permissions in that environment, such as the Environment Maker role?

To check it, please:

  • Sign in to the Power Platform admin center.
  • In the navigation pane, select "Manage".
  • In the "Manage" pane, select "Environments".
  • On the "Environments" page, select an environment.
  • Use the "Sort" or "Filter" options to organize the list of environments. These options are helpful when managing a large number of environments.

(If you do not have access to view this information, please contact your Power Platform administrator and ask them to verify your role assignment in that environment.)

Finally, I also want to provide this Microsoft Article for your reference:

Troubleshoot missing environments - Microsoft Dataverse | Microsoft Learn

(This article addresses troubleshooting issues related to missing environments in the Power Platform admin center, Power Apps maker portal, and Power Automate portal)

Please let me know if you still have any concerns about this issue.

Hope my information will be helpful for you!

Power Apps and Power Automate do not show environments by the same rules, so an environment visible in Power Automate might not appear in Power Apps.

In Power Apps, the environment switcher only shows environments where there is one of these roles in that environment:

  • Environment Maker
  • System Customizer
  • System Administrator

It can also show environments where there is edit permission to at least one canvas app.

If only the default environment appears in Power Apps, the likely cause is that the other environment does not have the required Power Apps role assignments for that account.

Checks to perform:

  1. In Power Apps, open the environment switcher near the right side of the header and confirm the current environment.
  2. In the environment switcher, use Filter and review whether the environment is being excluded by role, data platform, or environment type.
  3. Verify that the account has one of these roles in the target environment: Environment Maker, System Customizer, or System Administrator.
  4. If the environment was created in another environment context, remember that apps created in one environment cannot be seen from another environment.
  5. If the environment is missing only in one product experience, troubleshoot it as an environment visibility issue because each product experience has different inclusion criteria.

Relevant behavior differences:

  • In Power Apps, environments with system administrator or system customizer membership appear under Build apps with Dataverse.
  • Other environments appear when there is environment maker access or edit access to at least one canvas app.
  • In Power Automate, environments can appear under Build flows or Other environments, and the inclusion rules differ from Power Apps.
  • Every organization member can use the default environment, which is why it commonly appears even when others do not.

If the target environment should be available, the required information to troubleshoot is:

  • the environment name, ID, or Dataverse URL
  • the affected user identity
  • whether the issue occurs in Power Apps, Power Automate, or the Power Platform admin center

If the other environment is visible in Power Automate but not in Power Apps, I’d first check your permissions on that specific environment.

In Power Apps, the environment switcher only shows environments where you have an appropriate role, such as Environment Maker, System Customizer, or System Administrator, or where you have maker/editing permissions for an app.

An admin can check this in Power Platform admin center > Environments > [environment] > Settings/Access and verify that your account has the Environment Maker role. Microsoft also notes that simply having access to the tenant or a Power Apps license doesn't automatically give you access to every environment.

If you already have Environment Maker access and it still doesn't appear in the Power Apps environment picker, I'd check whether the environment has an Entra security group assigned and whether your account is a member of that group.
