Hi,

Copilot works correctly for me in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, but in OneNote for Mac the Copilot button is visible and permanently disabled (greyed out).

I have already verified:

  • Same Microsoft account in all apps.
  • Same Office version.
  • Microsoft 365 licence active.
  • OneDrive working correctly.
  • New notebook and new blank page created.
  • Restarted, signed out/in and updated Office.

Microsoft Support told me they have received reports from other users with the same issue and that it could be related to backend provisioning/synchronization.

Is anyone else experiencing this in OneNote for Mac? Has anyone found a solution or received an official update from Microsoft?

Thanks.

Hello Hector Torres Medina

Thank you for reaching out and confirm that you have a Family subscription.

After further research I found out that currently Copilot button may not enable on your OneNote for Mac is due to Copilot in OneNote for Mac currently requires a Microsoft 365 Copilot work subscription. With an eligible Microsoft 365 Personal or Family, Copilot function in OneNote only supports on Windows device at the moment.

    Hi Hector Torres Medina

Copilot availability in OneNote depends not only on having an active Microsoft 365 subscription, but also on the specific Copilot license assigned to the account. Copilot in OneNote for Mac is currently supported for customers with a Microsoft 365 Copilot work or organizational license. If you are using a personal Microsoft 365 subscription, Copilot for OneNote may only be available on Windows.

For more information, please refer to the following link: Welcome to Copilot in OneNote

If you are using a work or school account with a Microsoft 365 Copilot license, please check the following additional settings:

    1. Open Word for Mac.
    2. Select Word > Preferences > Privacy.
    3. Make sure Experiences that analyze your content and All connected experiences are enabled.
    4. Refresh the Office license, then completely close and reopen all Microsoft 365 applications.

    To learn more, please visit:

Please note that privacy settings, the assigned license, the Microsoft 365 Apps version, and organizational policies can affect Copilot availability.

If your account is managed by an organization, I also recommend asking your Microsoft 365 administrator to verify your Copilot license assignment, organizational policies, and the Service health section of the Microsoft 365 admin center.

I hope the information I shared earlier was somewhat helpful in addressing your issue. If you have any further questions or updates, please don’t hesitate to share.

    Kind regards,
