    Hi, @Katrin Head

Try turning off Full Keyboard Access on your Mac, as it can cause the Spacebar to be intercepted in Excel.

Go to Apple menu > System Settings > Accessibility > Keyboard, then turn Full Keyboard Access off.

Close and reopen Excel, then test typing in a cell again.

If issue still persists, to help narrow down the issue:

    1. Does the Spacebar work normally in other apps such as Notes or Safari?
    2. Does this happen in every Excel workbook, including a new blank one?

Click "Add comment" to let me know.

    Thanks!

On Mac, this can be caused by Full Keyboard Access intercepting the Spacebar in Excel.

    Try this:

    1. Open the Apple menu.
    2. Go to System Preferences.
    3. Select Accessibility > Keyboard > Navigation.
    4. Turn off Full Keyboard Access.
    5. Return to Excel and test typing in a cell again.

If the goal is to insert a new line inside the same cell, use Control+Option+Return.
