Minecraft.Windows.exe (v26.33) crashes (ucrtbase.dll, 0xc0000409) when creating or loading local worlds, but multiplayer/joining others' worlds works fine

Summary: I can't create new worlds or load any of my own local worlds — the game crashes about a quarter of the way through loading every time. Joining other people's worlds/servers works completely fine, so this seems isolated to local world creation/loading specifically.

Details:

  • Minecraft.Windows.exe version: 26.33
  • Crash happens consistently at the same point every time (not random)
  • Joining multiplayer/other people's worlds works with zero issues
  • Minecraft Java Edition has no problems at all on the same PC
  • Other games (Cyberpunk 2077, etc.) run fine, no other crashes or instability

What I've already tried (none of it fixed it):

  • Fresh reinstall with a completely empty com.mojang folder
  • Cleared AC\Temp folder
  • Signed out/back into Xbox app + full restart
  • Ran SFC /scannow and DISM RestoreHealth (no errors found)
  • Disabled Controlled Folder Access
  • Disabled overlays (Discord, GPU vendor overlay)
  • Confirmed Microsoft.VCLibs.140.00 is already up to date (higher version already installed)
  • Turned off RTX/ray tracing in video settings
  • No related errors in Event Viewer (checked WHEA-Logger, disk, GPU driver, kernel-power — all clean)

Crash log from Event Viewer:

Faulting application name: Minecraft.Windows.exe, version: 1.26.33.1, time stamp: 0x6a4e8d9a
Faulting module name: ucrtbase.dll, version: 10.0.26100.8875, time stamp: 0x303b538a
Exception code: 0xc0000409
Fault offset: 0x00000000000a527e
Faulting process id: 0x5F3C
Faulting package full name: Microsoft.MinecraftUWP_1.26.3301.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe
Faulting package-relative application ID: Game

System specs:

  • CPU: Intel i7-13700K
  • GPU: RTX 4080
  • RAM: 32GB DDR5
  • OS: Windows (fully updated)

Exception code 0xc0000409 is a stack buffer overrun caught by the CRT, so something is writing bad data during local world load/gen specifically — happy to provide more logs or test builds if that helps track it down.

I had this exact issue, and fixed this exact issue. My BIOS was outdated. Learn how to update your BIOS, it's quite sensitive and complex for someone who isn't computer savy, theres multiple videos on youtube on how to correctly update your BIOS so do your research..
