To stop the ongoing charges and get help with the existing bill, the next step is to open a billing support request in the Azure portal. Billing support is free and does not require a paid support plan.
Follow these steps carefully to avoid getting stuck in the AI/auto-suggestion loop:
- Go to the Azure Help + Support page:
- Navigate to:
https://portal.azure.com/#view/Microsoft_Azure_Support/HelpAndSupportBlade/~/overview
- Start creating a support request:
- Click Create a support request at the top.
- If a Support AI Assistant view appears, click Switch to old experience.
- Choose Billing as the issue type:
- In the left search box, type billing and click Go.
- Select Billing as the issue type and click Next.
- Select the affected subscription:
- Choose the subscription that is being charged for the deleted database.
- Click Next.
- Bypass auto-suggested solutions:
- Wait a few seconds for suggestions to load.
- Click Create a support request at the top (do not click any suggested solutions).
- Fill in the billing case details:
- Provide a clear summary such as: "Being charged for deleted database; cannot afford charges; need charges stopped and review/refund".
- Select appropriate Problem type and Problem subtype under Billing (for example, unexpected charges / subscription charges after deletion).
- Click Next.
- Skip the solutions again if shown:
- If another list of solutions appears, click Return to support request in the upper-left.
- Provide additional details:
- On Additional details, include:
- Subscription ID (copy it from the subscription blade in another tab).
- When the database was created and deleted.
- That the service has been charging for 3 months and the total is about 22k.
- That the database was created in error and you can’t afford the charges.
- Upload screenshots from Cost analysis showing the specific resource and charges, if available.
- Click Next, then Review + create, then Create.
- Track and respond:
- You will receive an email confirmation and then a response from the billing team, usually within one business day.
- Reply to them with any extra information they request; they are the only ones who can stop billing on the subscription and review/adjust charges.
If the portal keeps looping you through AI suggestions, ensure you always choose Billing as the issue type and always use Create a support request / Return to support request instead of clicking any suggested articles.
If you also want to understand which resource is generating the charges while you wait for support, open Cost Management → Cost analysis for the subscription and filter by service (for example, Azure Database for MySQL) and by the last 3 months, then include that screenshot in your ticket.
