In Microsoft Advertising reporting, the AdDistribution values and filters behave as follows:
- The
AdDistributionReportFiltervalue set supports three values:-
Audience -
CrossNetwork -
Search
-
- In most performance reports, when the
AdDistributioncolumn is included, the values returned in the downloaded report are only:-
Search -
Audience
CrossNetworkis not returned as a column value. Instead,CrossNetworkis used only as a filter option to include both Search and Audience traffic together. -
- This explains the mismatch:
- UI may show or allow selection of
CrossNetworkas a distribution option. - API responses for the
AdDistributioncolumn will only showSearchandAudiencevalues, even whenCrossNetworkis used as a filter.
- UI may show or allow selection of
- To replicate UI behavior via API:
- Use
AdDistributionReportFilterset toCrossNetworkwhen supported, to retrieve combined Search + Audience data. - Interpret the returned
AdDistributioncolumn values (Search,Audience) as the underlying components of the CrossNetwork distribution.
- Use
So, the absence of CrossNetwork in the API AdDistribution column is by design; only Search and Audience are returned as values, while CrossNetwork is a filter that aggregates both.
