Azure Static Web Apps still don't support .NET 10

A recent post on the Azure Updates feed advises that we must update to .NET 10 before November. However, Azure Static Web Apps still do not support .NET 10 and there is no official word on when this will happen. The related GitHub issues list seems to be dead and is not receiving responses from Microsoft.

Is this is a sign that Static Web Apps are not receiving support anymore? Will Static Web App users have the ability to deploy .NET 10 apps before .NET 8/9 loses support?

    Hi @Tony Lunt

Thanks for checking on this. I understand the concern, especially given the recent .NET 10 updates.

To clarify, .NET 10 itself is fully supported and actively serviced by Microsoft, as shown in the .NET 10.0 update from February 10, 2026 and the official .NET support policy. However, runtime support in Azure services depends on each service’s supported runtime list.

For Azure Static Web Apps, the managed /api (Azure Functions) experience currently supports:

    • .NET 8 (LTS)
    • .NET 9 (isolated)

    Reference:

At this time, .NET 10 is not yet supported for managed APIs in Azure Static Web Apps, even though .NET 10 is supported at the platform level. When an API runtime isn’t listed as supported, Microsoft’s documented guidance is to use “Bring Your Own Functions” (for example, hosting APIs on Azure App Service or standalone Azure Functions).

    Recommended approach:

    • Stay on .NET 8 (LTS) for Static Web Apps, which remains supported under Microsoft’s lifecycle policy
    • If .NET 10 is required now, host APIs externally and integrate them with your Static Web App

Azure Static Web Apps continue to be an active, supported Azure service. There is no indication in the provided material that the service is being deprecated or losing support.

For APIs in Azure Static Web Apps, the platform currently documents support for specific .NET and Node.js versions via the apiRuntime setting. The latest .NET options listed for managed functions are .NET 8 and .NET 9 (isolated) and .NET 8 in-process, all running on Azure Functions v4:

    • dotnet:8.0 (in-process)
    • dotnet-isolated:8.0
    • dotnet-isolated:9.0

If an application requires a runtime version that is not in the supported list, the documented guidance is to “bring your own functions” rather than rely on the managed functions environment. That is the current path for using a runtime newer than those listed.

The context also shows that .NET 10 is being serviced and supported as a product, with regular updates and standard Microsoft support channels, but there is no statement that Azure Static Web Apps managed functions support .NET 10 yet, nor any published timeline for when that will happen.

From the available information, the following can be concluded:

    1. Static Web Apps are still supported and maintained.
    2. Managed functions in Static Web Apps currently support up to .NET 9 (isolated) according to the documented apiRuntime values.
    3. When a required runtime (such as .NET 10) is not listed, the recommended approach is to use the “bring your own functions” model.
    4. There is no documented commitment or date in this material that guarantees .NET 10 support for managed functions in Static Web Apps before .NET 8/9 reach end of support.

For feature requests or concerns about roadmap and timelines, the official guidance is to open issues in the Azure Static Web Apps GitHub repository or contact Azure Support. For .NET-specific support questions (such as migration to .NET 10 and its servicing requirements), the documented path is to contact Microsoft Support or use the .NET community support channels.
