Why is Planner not available in Microsoft's personal Office subscriptions?

Microsoft used to make Planner available for personal use. Now it doesn't. At the same time, they charge more for the personal subscriptions, and give less functionality.

For many, Microsoft is the preferred platform as we use it at work, but no Planner is just another reason to switch to another platform. I just don't see how this is a good business model or in general good for customer relations. And I mean the default Planner app, not the Premium stuff. Please get Planner in to the personal subscriptions, so your support staff's can stop answering me that I should get a business email, migrate my emails and calendars, and then get a cheaper business account.

    Dear @Jonas Måøy,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

Currently, Planner is tied to business and education subscriptions because it relies on Microsoft 365 Groups and other enterprise services. Planner is designed as a team-based task management tool, deeply integrated with Microsoft 365 Groups, SharePoint, and Teams, all of which are business-oriented services.

While personal subscriptions (Microsoft 365 Personal and Family) are optimized for individual productivity and collaboration within a family group, not for organizational-level features like shared plans, group permissions, and enterprise compliance. Because of this architecture, Microsoft shifted personal plans toward To Do for individual task management and Family Safety for household coordination, but these don’t fully replace Planner’s board-based experience.

    For more information:

Moreover, I completely agree that having Planner available in personal Microsoft 365 subscriptions would make a big difference for users who want consistency between work and personal life. It’s a valuable feature for organizing tasks visually, and many customers feel the same way. Your feedback is important because Microsoft actively reviews customer input when deciding future updates.

Therefore, to ensure your feedback reaches the right teams, I highly recommend submitting your feedback directly to Microsoft Ideas · Community, where our product development team can know your requirements and ideas for product improvements.
