Record both spoken language captions and live translation captions during Teams Meeting

Hello,

My team and I are running a Town Hall event to roughly 50-100 people.

The event will be recorded, and we plan on using English captioning and French captioning using live translation.

Is it possible to record both the original English captions AND the live translation captioning.

Our alternative is using a screen recorder to save the video with the Live Translation captions, but that would leave us with hard-coded captioning, which isn't ideal.

Thank you!

Hi @Urquhart, Andrew (NBCC)

Thank you for posting on Microsoft Q&A forum.

It appears you’re looking to record both the original English captions and the live French translation during your upcoming Town Hall.

Currently, Microsoft Teams supports live captions and live translated captions during the event, but only the spoken language transcript is saved with the recording. Translated captions are not stored as a separate track in the recording.

There are recommended options you can try:

  • Download the English transcript after the event and use Microsoft Translator or Azure Video Indexer to create French captions post-event.
  • Upload the recording to Microsoft Stream or Azure Video Indexer for multilingual captioning that remains toggleable.

In Microsoft Teams, when you record a meeting, the recording captures the original spoken language captions but does not natively support recording live translated captions alongside them. The live translation feature allows participants to see captions translated into their preferred language during the meeting, but these translations are not included in the recorded video.

As a workaround, you could use a screen recorder to capture the meeting with the live translation captions displayed. However, this would result in hard-coded captions in the recording, which you mentioned is not ideal.

Currently, there is no built-in feature in Teams that allows for the simultaneous recording of both the original captions and live translated captions in the same recording.
