Universal print printing job stuck pending but a restart of printer gets them printed

Hello- we have a new Brother MFC-L5915DW which supports Universal Print. The machine works fine; however, when a user send multiple jobs to it, sometimes they get stuck in 'pending' status and will not print unless we restart the printer. Is there a simpler solution or perhaps something that can be adjusted in the Universal Print dashboard?

We are troubleshooting a recurring issue with several Konica Minolta bizhub MFPs using the native Universal Print integration.

The basic symptom is that Universal Print will work normally for some period of time, then a particular MFP appears to stop acquiring jobs. Jobs successfully leave the Windows client queue and show as Pending in Microsoft Universal Print, but they never print.

A few observations have helped narrow this down:

    • The affected MFP remains reachable on the network.
    • Direct printing to the same device over TCP/9100 continues to work normally.
    • Sending a direct TCP/9100 job and physically waking/using the copier does not cause the pending Universal Print jobs to resume.
    • Other Universal Print-enabled Konica MFPs in the same environment continue printing normally at the same time.
    • Restarting the affected MFP restores Universal Print functionality, and the device begins accepting jobs again.
    • We have completely disabled sleep by enabling the super secret service mode completely disable sleep setting.

We originally suspected sleep/power-management behavior. Konica support enabled the service-mode setting that completely disables sleep, but the issue has continued, so sleep does not appear to be the root cause.

At this point, the failure appears to be isolated to the printer-side Universal Print integration rather than the Windows print client, basic IP connectivity, or the print engine itself.

One possibility we are investigating is the printer’s Universal Print authentication/session state. Microsoft’s Universal Print documentation indicates that Universal Print-ready devices authenticate using a device certificate and obtain OAuth device access tokens. Their reference response includes a token expiration lifetime. I am curious whether there could be a token-refresh, notification/polling, or other long-lived session issue in the Konica Universal Print implementation.

We are planning additional packet captures comparing a working MFP and a failed MFP, including traffic before and after restarting the failed device.

Has anyone else seen Konica Universal Print devices periodically stop acquiring jobs until the MFP is restarted? If so, were you ever able to determine whether the cause was firmware, the Konica Universal Print app, authentication/token renewal, or something else?
