Processes in Microsoft 365 for setting up Office apps, redeeming product keys, and activating licenses.
The installer location depends on which Office 2019 edition the former Home Use Program sold you: use Home Use Program Order History for Professional Plus, or Microsoft account Services & subscriptions for Home & Business.^1^
If you purchased Office Professional Plus 2019
- Open the Home Use Program Order History.
- Enter the work email address used for the original purchase.
- Check that mailbox, including its junk folder, for the message containing your product key and installation instructions.
- Download and run the installer provided through that recovery process.
If you no longer receive email at that work address, continue with the Microsoft-account check below.
If you purchased Office Home & Business 2019
- Open Microsoft account Services & subscriptions.
- Sign in with the personal Microsoft account used when Office was purchased or first activated—not the work email address.
- Locate Office 2019 and select Install.
- If offered, choose the language and 32-bit or 64-bit edition, then select Install again.
- Run the downloaded setup file and approve the Windows User Account Control prompt.
- Open Word or Excel after installation, accept the license terms, and sign in with the same Microsoft account to activate it.^2^
If Office 2019 does not appear
- Try any other personal Microsoft account that may have been used when Office was first activated.
- For Professional Plus, use Order History first; if no email arrives, check Services & subscriptions as directed above.
- Do not use an unrelated public installer: installation alone does not provide the license, and activation still depends on the original product key or linked Microsoft account.
- A one-time-purchase Office license is licensed for one installation. If this is a replacement PC, remove Office from the previous PC before transferring it.^2^
Office 2019 has reached end of support and no longer receives security updates. It can still be reinstalled, but using it may expose the PC to security risks.^2^
