A Microsoft file hosting and synchronization service.
Sign in to OneDrive with the Microsoft account that received the frozen message, verify that the increased allowance puts that account under its storage quota, and allow up to 24 hours for OneDrive to unfreeze automatically.^1^
Check the account and storage
- Open OneDrive online and sign in.
- Confirm that this is the same Microsoft account that received the frozen-account message.
- Open Settings → Options → Manage storage.
- Verify that:
- The new storage allowance appears.
- Total usage is below the displayed Microsoft storage limit.
- The Recycle Bin is emptied if you deleted files to create space.
Storage changes can take up to 24 hours to apply. During a freeze, existing files may remain visible but read-only; uploads, edits, and synchronization are unavailable.^2^
If the website works but the Windows app remains frozen
After the online account has unfrozen, reconnect the desktop client:
- Right-click the OneDrive cloud icon in the Windows notification area.
- Select Settings → Account → Unlink this PC.
- Start OneDrive from the Start menu.
- Sign in again with the same Microsoft account and select the existing OneDrive folder.
This refreshes the desktop app’s account and storage information.^3^
If it remains frozen
If the increased allowance is visible and the account is under quota but OneDrive is still frozen after 48 hours, contact Microsoft Support using the Contact support option in the official frozen-account article.^1^
If the purchased storage is not shown, first check whether it was added to a different Microsoft account. Provide Support with the affected account and proof of purchase, but do not post those details publicly.
