Hi,

The above IS the title of another post, however none of the suggested solutions have any traction with my set up on win 10, and as far as a reset is concerned, if i do a local reinstall windows removes all apps and programs even if i asked it not too, and chose THAT option. It has happened twice b4 over the journey. Like the prior post:

"Its my own personal computer, I am the only one using it, I am the administrator. How can I change the settings?"

Getting 'a little' (?) annoying.

Appreciate any advise or direction.

This problem is usually caused by group policies applied on the device or some other restriction in the registry.

    1

    Open the Settings App.

    Go to Accounts.

Select Access Work or School, is there is a work or school Email listed there?

If there is any work or school account listed there, select it, and disconnect the account, then restart (not shut down) your PC.

    2

If there is no work or school account listed there, use this fix.

Click your Start Button, then just type cmd

On the resulting list, right click Command Prompt and select 'run as Administrator'

Paste each of these commands into Command one at a time and press Enter, wait for each command to complete, before running the next command, if you receive an error on any command, ignore that and continue to the next command.

    reg delete "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies" /f

    reg delete "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\WindowsSelfHost" /f

    reg delete "HKLM\Software\Policies" /f

    reg delete "HKLM\Software\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Policies" /f

    reg delete "HKLM\Software\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies" /f

    reg delete "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies" /f

    reg delete "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\WindowsSelfHost" /f

    reg delete "HKCU\Software\Policies" /f

    reg delete "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Policies" /f

Then, close Command Prompt and restart (not shut down) your PC

If Location for this device is locked and Windows shows Some settings are managed by your organization on a personal Windows 10 PC, the supported checks and fixes in the provided material are:

    1. Check whether a work or school account is connected:
      • Open Settings > Accounts > Access work or school.
      • If a work or school account is listed, disconnect it.
      • Restart the PC.
    2. Verify the Windows 10 location controls:
      • Go to Start > Settings > Privacy > Location.
      • If signed in as an administrator, select Change under Location for this device and turn it On.
      • For the current account, turn Allow apps to access your location On.
      • If Location for this device is off appears, per-user location access cannot be enabled until the device-level setting is turned on.
    3. If the restriction remains, refresh policy and remove leftover policy registry entries.
      • Open Command Prompt as administrator.
      • Run:
             gpupdate /force /boot

      • Restart and test again.
    4. If still locked, remove the policy keys that are commonly left behind on personal devices.
      • Warning: deleting registry policy keys changes system policy configuration. Restart after completing the commands.
      • Run these commands one at a time in an elevated Command Prompt:
             reg delete "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies" /f
             reg delete "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\WindowsSelfHost" /f
             reg delete "HKLM\Software\Policies" /f
             reg delete "HKLM\Software\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Policies" /f
             reg delete "HKLM\Software\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies" /f
reg delete "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows Defender" /v DisableAntiSpyware
             reg delete "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies" /f
             reg delete "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\WindowsSelfHost" /f
             reg delete "HKCU\Software\Policies" /f
             reg delete "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Policies" /f

      • Ignore individual command errors if a key or value is not found.
      • Restart the PC and check Settings > Privacy > Location again.
    5. If the page still shows management text, note that Windows 10 can also show this message when settings are actually being controlled externally. The location settings page itself states that on devices assigned by a workplace, or on personal devices used at a workplace, location settings might not be changeable.

This avoids a reinstall and matches the documented Windows 10 location path plus the accepted remediation used in similar cases where policy remnants caused the lockout.
