A Microsoft app for iOS and Android devices that enables authentication with two-factor verification, phone sign-in, and code generation
Open Microsoft Authenticator, select the listed work/school account, and tap Check for notifications or pull down to refresh; the pending Workday sign-in request may then appear for approval.^1^
If no request appears
- Return to the Microsoft sign-in page opened by Workday and look for I can’t use my Microsoft Authenticator app right now, Sign in another way, or Show more verification methods.
- Select another method—such as a verification code, text, or call—if one is offered.
- If Authenticator is the only method, check the phone:
- Settings → Notifications → Microsoft Authenticator: enable notifications.
- Turn off Do Not Disturb/Quiet mode.
- Confirm Wi-Fi or mobile data works and Airplane mode is off.
- In Authenticator, open Settings → Notification Settings and enable Show notifications.
- Update Authenticator through the phone’s app store, then retry the Workday sign-in.
These are Microsoft’s recommended checks when Authenticator notifications do not arrive.^2^
Do not approve a request unless it corresponds to the Workday sign-in you initiated.
If Authenticator is still the only available method
Contact your employer’s IT help desk and request:
“Please reset my Microsoft Authenticator/MFA registration or require me to re-register MFA. My work account appears in Authenticator, but Workday’s Microsoft sign-in request never reaches the app.”
Work/school authentication settings are controlled by the organization’s administrator; Microsoft community support cannot reset them directly.^3^ After the reset, sign in again through Workday and complete the new Authenticator registration, normally by scanning the QR code presented during setup.
Avoid deleting the account from Authenticator before contacting IT. If it is your only registered verification method, removing it can leave you unable to complete sign-in.
