Daily chat limit is being triggered after only a few prompts across multiple sessions/devices following the recent Copilot experience update. This is a change since the last upgrade to CoPilot on a desktop running Win 11

Check that Copilot is signed in with the Microsoft account that owns your Microsoft 365 subscription, because limits follow the account and subscription—not an individual Windows 11 device or chat session.

Check the account and entitlement

  1. In Copilot, select the profile/account icon and note which personal, work, or school account is active.
  2. Open your Microsoft account’s Services & subscriptions page and verify:
    • The expected Microsoft 365 plan is active.
    • The signed-in account is the subscription owner.
    • No AI usage-limit notification is displayed.
  3. If Microsoft 365 Family is involved, switch Copilot to the account that purchased the subscription. AI benefits belong to the subscription owner and cannot be shared with other family members. Limits can also vary by feature, entry point, and system conditions. ^1^
  4. Confirm that the warning occurs under ordinary Chat, rather than Cowork or the former Tasks experience. Cowork has separate plan requirements and is limited to Premium or Pro during preview. ^2^

If this is a free Copilot account, the limit itself can be expected: free chat remains available subject to capacity and usage limits, and Microsoft directs users to return later or upgrade after reaching one. Paid subscriptions provide higher limits. ^2^

If the correct paid account reaches the limit after only 3–5 prompts

That unusually early lockout has also been reported by other users after the updated Copilot experience, including on Windows 11 and across browsers or devices. Microsoft has not published a confirmed root cause or user-side reset procedure for that pattern. ^3^

Because it reproduces across devices and sessions, do not spend more time reinstalling the Windows app or clearing a single browser’s cache. Report the account-specific limit:

  1. Open Copilot.
  2. Select … in the upper-right corner.
  3. Select Send feedback → Report a problem.
  4. Include:
    • The exact “daily chat limit” message.
    • The approximate number of prompts before it appeared.
    • Date, time, and time zone.
    • Windows 11 version and Copilot app version.
    • Whether the same account fails on the web and another device.
    • The subscription name shown under Services & subscriptions.
    • A screenshot without personal information.

This is Microsoft’s documented reporting path for problems in the updated Copilot app. ^4^

Until the account limit resets or Microsoft corrects the entitlement, the supported options are to return later or use a plan with higher limits. There is no documented Windows setting that manually resets the quota.
