Microsoft 365 purchased online directly from Microsoft normally has no product key; install and activate it by signing in with the Microsoft account used for the purchase.^1^

Install Microsoft 365 on Windows

1. Open the Microsoft 365 Services & subscriptions page: https://account.microsoft.com/services/
2. Sign in with the Microsoft account used when purchasing Microsoft 365.
3. Find your Microsoft 365 subscription and select Install or Install apps.
4. Select Microsoft 365 apps. Choose the language or 32/64-bit version if prompted; 64-bit is normally selected by default.
5. After the installer downloads:
   • Microsoft Edge: select Run.
   • Chrome: select Setup.
   • Firefox: select Save File, then open the downloaded file.
6. If Windows asks, “Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?”, select Yes.
7. Keep the computer switched on and connected to the Internet. When “You’re all set! Office is installed now” appears, select Close.^2^

Activate the applications

1. Select Start and open an application such as Word.
2. Accept the licence agreement.
3. If prompted, sign in with the same Microsoft account used for the purchase.
4. Do not select the product-key option for a normal Microsoft 365 online subscription; the Microsoft account holds the licence and activates the applications.^1^

If the subscription is not listed

Check the following:

• Sign out and try another Microsoft account that may have been used for the purchase.
• Check your Microsoft order history: https://account.microsoft.com/billing/orders
• Open the purchase-confirmation email and select Install Office, if that option is present.
• If Microsoft 365 was purchased from another online retailer and the retailer supplied a new key, redeem it once at https://www.office.com/setup. After redemption, the licence becomes associated with your Microsoft account; future installations use that account rather than the key.^3^
• If it was purchased from a third-party seller but no subscription or key was supplied, contact that seller for the purchase and redemption information.

Microsoft 365 does not display a full product key inside Office or online. In Word, File → Account → Belongs to shows the Microsoft account associated with the installed licence.^1^
