How do I have teams on both phone and the computer and have them on the same page/subject. In other words, if I am chatting on my phone can I look and see the same chat on the computer and switch back and forth.

    Hi William,

Thank you for reaching out with your question about using Microsoft Teams on both your phone and your computer.

In fact, Teams stores your chats in your Microsoft account rather than on a single device; therefore, the same conversations will appear everywhere as long as both apps are signed in with the same account and kept up to date.

With this in mind, the following workarounds should suit your situation well:

1/ Sign in with the same account on both devices

    • Firstly, open Teams on your computer, select your profile picture in the top right corner, and take note of the email address shown.
    • Next, open Teams on your phone, tap your profile picture in the top left corner, and confirm that the email address is exactly the same.
    • If the two addresses are different, tap Settings, then Sign out, and afterwards sign in again with the same email and password you use on your computer.

2/ Keep both Teams apps up to date

    • On your computer, select Settings and more (the three dots beside your profile picture), and then choose Update and restart Teams whenever an update is available.
    • Similarly, on your phone, open the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play Store (Android), search for Microsoft Teams, and tap Update if the option appears.
    • Once both updates are complete, restart the apps so your latest chats load correctly.

3/ Set up smooth switching between devices

    • Open Settings on your phone, tap Notifications, and choose to receive alerts only when you are not active on your computer. As a result, your phone stays quiet while you work at your desk and alerts you as soon as you step away. Manage notifications in Microsoft Teams | Microsoft Support
    • In addition, send a short test message from a chat on your computer, and then open the same chat on your phone. You will see the message appear on both devices within moments.
    • From then on, you can continue any conversation from whichever device is most convenient, and everything will stay on the same page.

Should you have any further questions or need additional assistance, please feel free to reply to this email at any time. I will be more than happy to help.

    Warm regards,

Yes. Teams syncs across devices, so chats can be continued on a phone and then picked up on a computer, or the other way around.

    On the phone:

    1. Open the Teams mobile app.
    2. Tap Chat.
    3. Open the conversation and continue messaging.

    On the computer:

    1. Open Teams.
    2. Select Chat on the left side.
    3. Open the same chat thread.
    4. Continue the conversation there.

Teams also keeps status updated across devices. In the mobile app, changing status updates it on all devices that run Teams, including the computer.

If the goal is to use both devices in the same meeting at once, that is also supported. From the second device, select Join call, then choose either:

    • Transfer to this device to move the meeting, or
    • Add this device to keep both devices in the meeting.
