Using Classic Outlook on Windows for personal email, calendar, and contact management
If emails are delayed appearing in the Inbox in classic Outlook for Windows, the documented cause is that messages can get stuck in Outlook’s incoming item processing pipeline in Cached mode.
Try these steps in order:
- Close Outlook.
- Start Outlook with the
/cleanipsswitch:
This clears the incoming item processing state.Outlook.exe /cleanips - If that does not fix it, clear and resync the Inbox offline items:
- Open Outlook.
- Right-click Inbox > Properties.
- On the General tab, select Clear Offline Items.
- Select OK when prompted that data was removed from the Outlook data file (.ost).
- Select OK to close Inbox Properties.
- Select the Inbox in the Navigation Pane and press Shift+F9 to force resynchronization.
A useful check is whether the missing messages appear in Online mode, Outlook Web Access, or Outlook Web App but not in the Cached mode Inbox. That pattern matches this known Outlook issue.
