    Hi,

Yes, your v1 storage accounts need to be upgraded to avoid service disruption. If you don't upgrade them Microsoft will automatically migrate them to v2 after October 13th, 2026.

Please see screenshot snippet from Health Advisory:

Yes. Upgrading GPv1 to GPv2 is mandatory.

Microsoft will retire general-purpose v1 (GPv1) storage accounts on October 13, 2026. All GPv1 accounts must be upgraded to GPv2 before that date to avoid service disruption.

If a GPv1 account is not upgraded by the retirement date, Microsoft will automatically upgrade it to GPv2. It does not remain on GPv1 indefinitely after retirement.

    Key points:

    1. GPv1 cannot continue as-is after retirement.
    2. Automatic upgrade will occur for remaining GPv1 accounts.
    3. Data is preserved during the upgrade.
    4. The upgrade is non-disruptive, with the same endpoint names retained.
    5. After upgrade, billing changes to GPv2 pricing, which can be different from GPv1.
    6. The upgrade is permanent and cannot be reverted back to GPv1.

So for the question about using V1 after the retirement date:

    • GPv1 is not intended to remain usable long-term after the retirement date.
    • Remaining GPv1 accounts are scheduled to be automatically migrated to GPv2.
    • There is no supported extended period to keep using GPv1 after retirement.
    • Microsoft does not grant exceptions.
