Try these Windows 10 checks in order:
- Make sure the headset is connected correctly.
- If the headset has a Mute button, make sure it is not turned on.
- Set the headset mic as the default input device.
- Go to Start > Settings > System > Sound.
- Under Input, make sure the headset microphone is selected in Choose your input device.
- Speak into the mic and check Test your microphone to confirm Windows is receiving input.
- Check microphone privacy permissions.
- Go to Start > Settings > Privacy > Microphone.
- Turn on Allow apps to access your microphone.
- Make sure Allow desktop apps to access your microphone is also On.
- If the issue is in a specific app, make sure that app is allowed to use the microphone.
- Run the Recording Audio troubleshooter.
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters.
- Select Recording Audio and run it.
- If the microphone still is not detected, reinstall the audio drivers.
- Right-click Start > Device Manager.
- Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
- Right-click the audio device and select Uninstall device.
- If shown, select Delete the driver software for this device or Attempt to remove the driver for this device, then uninstall.
- Restart the PC.
- After restart, Windows should reinstall the driver automatically. If not, open Device Manager, right-click Sound, video and game controllers, and select Scan for hardware changes.
- Then right-click the audio driver and select Update driver.
- If the microphone is detected but very quiet:
- Go to Start > Settings > System > Sound.
- Under Input, select the microphone and open Device Properties.
- On the Levels tab, increase Microphone and Microphone Boost.
