If the Samsung phone hotspot is visible but the HP laptop cannot connect, use this order:
- On the laptop, open Start > Settings > Network & Internet > Wi‑Fi and confirm Wi‑Fi is turned On.
- In the available Wi‑Fi networks list, select the phone hotspot, enter the hotspot password again, and reconnect.
- If the phone and laptop are both using Wi‑Fi for Phone Link features, check that both devices are on the same Wi‑Fi network when using Phone Link. Public Wi‑Fi, work networks, VPNs, or firewalls can block communication between devices.
- If the hotspot still fails, try the phone hotspot on another device. If another device also cannot connect, the issue is likely with the phone hotspot or mobile carrier connection. If another device can connect, the issue is likely on the laptop.
- On the laptop, try a different band if available. Windows guidance notes that 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz can appear as separate networks, and switching bands can help with connection problems.
- If Wi‑Fi hotspot continues to fail, use Bluetooth tethering instead:
- Turn on Bluetooth on both the Windows laptop and the phone and pair them.
- On the phone, turn on hotspot sharing over Bluetooth.
- On Windows, right-click the Bluetooth Devices icon in the notification area, select Join a Personal Area Network, right-click the phone, then select Connect using > Access point.
- If the goal is easier repeat connection from a Samsung phone, Instant Hotspot may be available if these requirements are met:
- Windows 11 version 22H2 build 22621 or later
- PC with Bluetooth and Wi‑Fi
- Phone Link version 1.22092.211.0 or later
- Samsung device with One UI 4.1.1 or later
- Link to Windows app version 1.22093.2.0 or later
- Hotspot-capable SIM plan To enable it on the PC: Phone Link > Settings > Features > Instant Hotspot > Setup Instant Hotspot.
Important: mobile data charges may apply when using the phone hotspot.
