A specific functionality or enhancement provided by Windows Copilot
Hi Johnny,
I understand why this makes Copilot Voice difficult to use. Telling Copilot in the conversation to respond only after hearing its name does not change how the voice session operates.
On a Windows PC, you can enable the dedicated“Hey Copilot” wake-word feature:
- Open the Copilot app.
- Select your profile picture and open Settings.
- Turn on Listen for “Hey Copilot” to start a conversation.
This lets you start a new voice conversation by saying“Hey Copilot.” However, once that conversation has started, Copilot remains in an interactive listening mode, so you do not need to repeat the wake phrase before every sentence. To prevent it from responding to other speech, select Mute or X/Dismiss when you finish speaking, then use “Hey Copilot” again when you want to start another conversation. Background noise can sometimes keep a voice session active.
The wake-word option is currently available in the Copilot app on Windows and the wake phrase itself must be spoken in English. The PC must also be unlocked, connected to the internet and running the Copilot app.
You can find the full requirements and instructions here: Copilot Wake Word (“Hey Copilot”) | Microsoft Support.
Since this is a community forum, I cannot change how Copilot Voice detects speech, but if it continues responding after you have muted or closed the voice session, please let me know whether you are using Windows, Android, iPhone or the web version so I can suggest the appropriate checks.
